Old piece, I know, but I hope that you see this comment someday. I adore your writing, always have. Not too many people have the courage to write as honestly as you do. It’s funny how you say that you tune in to social media seeking the validation but to me, your voice has surprisingly never seemed to seek validation so much just sharing your story, the good and bad of it.

I haven’t read your books (they have been on my list for a while now!) yet but it surprises me how one of the most prominent writers of a generation has gone through what you’ve just described. You ARE one of THE voices of this generation, Emily. You started so much of what personal and confessional essays are. Every other person does it today, but not the way you did.

I am quite certain that life took a much better turn as I follow your work. I hope you decide to get back on Medium, though. Thank you for writing and being who you are. You are fantastic and a huge inspiration!
